The label

Flex Recordings is a UK jungle and drum & bass record label founded in 1994 by L Double. Three decades of records, rave culture and radio firsts, an archive of original pressings, lost dubplate scrolls and 24-bit remasters, pressed to vinyl and sold here first.

The story

L Double came up through UK hip hop with DTF All-Stars, one of the pioneering acts of the scene, and toured Europe with DJ Trix before the rave era took hold. Passing through bleep techno, acid house and dub, he helped lay the foundations of jungle and drum & bass, and founded Flex Recordings in 1994 to release it.

Under the aliases Asylum and The Dubster he pioneered the DoubleDrop style of mixing. He was the first jungle and drum & bass DJ to broadcast on BBC Radio 1Xtra, there from day one of the station, and set up the first UK Official Jungle / Drum and Bass chart, giving the scene its own league table. Along the way, his work earned a Sony award nomination.

The vault: reissues and remasters

Thirty years in, the label is working through its own archive: vault digs, lost double packs and DAT-era recordings remastered at 24-bit and pressed to wax.

Out now on the store: Flex 30R, the double pack marking three decades of the label; Flex 040, Ricky Force's Real Love / Nice N Easy; and Black Hole, the lost double pack, back on vinyl.

What the store sells

Vinyl and physical merch only: records, hoodies, tees, headwear and accessories. Digital releases live on Bandcamp. Download codes are given away free, never sold.

FlexDNBTV and events

FlexDNBTV on Twitch is the label's streaming home: listening parties, vault plays and guest DJs. It is quiet right now and being built back up. On the floor, label nights like Strictly Jungle Classics at Rebellion, Manchester keep the rave side alive.
